Much loved tales come to life and new stories are waiting to be written in Warwickshire - birthplace of William Shakespeare

Warwickshire is the place that much loved tales come to life, and new stories are waiting to be written. A quintessentially English county and home to beautiful countryside dotted with historic towns – this is Shakespeare’s England. A destination boasting thousands of years of history, unique heritage, arts, crafts and of course the birthplace of playwright William Shakespeare.  Come and discover medieval tales, romantic stories, magnificent castles and tranquil scenery – you will be spoilt for choice in Warwickshire!

ITINERARY

Friday - Morning departure from Dorset we drive towards the Cotswold Hills to stop in Cirencester for lunch. Later tour through Bourton-on-the Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh to arrive Walton Hall where dinner awaits.

Saturday - Visit wonderful Warwick, the county town that has existed over 1000 years and offers Saxon, Norman, Tudor, Georgian and Victorian history on its streets today. The magnificent castle dominates the town and must be visited (entry is included), but there are many other landmarks here that can not be missed - The West Gate, Lord Leycester Hospital, Almshouses, Old Courthouse and Gaol to name but a few.

Sunday - Visit Stratford-on-Avon, famous as birthplace to Shakespeare, but so much more besides that. An ancient market town full of half-timbered buildings and stunning architecture, much of which would have been familiar to the famous playwright. We shall pick-up a local guide who will escort the coach on a panoramic tour of the town and regale us with facts and stories. Later there will be time to make your own discoveries - maybe enjoy a river cruise, visit one of Shakespeare's houses or join a free tour of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Monday - Warwickshire has a final parting gift this morning - we visit Kennilworth Castle and Gardens. A massive ruined Norman Keep, Great Hall, Gatehouse and beautiful Elizabethan Garden are the highlights. Leave early afternoon to drive via motorways back to Dorset by late afternoon.
