As a living, breathing, working museum, the Isle of Wight Steam railway is fascinating for all age groups
A beautifully restored steam railway operating through 10 miles of delightful and unspoilt Island scenery. It is sure to enthrall visitors of all ages and take you on a nostalgic experience of yester-year! A brand new £1.2 million Train Story Discovery Centre has brough a new dimension to the visit, as well as the railway shop, museum, carriage and wagon workshops and a cafe serving scrummy homemade meals.
The ferry crossing to the island is with Red Funnel from Southampton to Cowes, which provides panoramic sea-views of Southampton Water and The Solent (1 hour each way) enjoying sights of cruise liners, cargo vessels, yachts and dingys with the waterside scenery.
Sunday 1st June
Depart from: Chickerell 07:30 - Portland 08:00 - Weymouth 08:30 - Dorchester 00:00
Arrive Southampton by 10:30 - boarding the 11:00 ferry to Cowes, IOW (cafe/toilets on-board) - arrives 12:00
Short drive to IOW Steam Railway at Havenstreet - arrive 12:30.
There will be time for lunch and the visit the workshops, Train Story Display, shop and museum.
There is a superb cafe, or bring a picnic.
Join the steam train departing at 15:00 for a full circuit of the line - returning by 15:55
A little more free time to enjoy any attactions you might have missed earlier
Coach leaves at 16:45 to arrive East Cowes by 17:15.
Ferry sails at 18:30 - Arrives Southampton 19:30.
Return to Dorchester 21:00 - Weymouth 21:30 - Portland 21:50 - Chickerell 22:20
