Told through the personal accounts of people who were there and brought to life through stunning audio-visual presentations alongside iconic objects from the museum’s collection.

The D-Day Story starts with a visit to the impressive 59 metre Landing Craft Tank 7074 which is situated outside the museum. Your visit will then continue into the main museum building. The D-Day Story uses authentic objects, interactives and video to tell the story of D-Day from the preparation and build up, to the landings and the Battle of Normandy. The stunning 83 metre Overlord Embroidery offers a fantastic finale to your visit.

Landing Craft Tank 7074 (LCT 7074)

Step on board the last remaining Landing Craft Tank from D-Day. For months the ship carried troops, supplies and up to ten tanks across the channel. It played a vital role in helping liberate Europe. Following a multi-million-pound restoration project by our partner, the National Museum of the Royal Navy, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, LCT 7074 has been restored to its former glory. Sound effects, recreated crew quarters, and Sherman and Churchill tanks bring the experience of being on board to life. The average visit time for the LCT 7074 is approximately 30-45 mins

Often described as a hidden treasure, The D-Day Story is also home to the magnificent Overlord Embroidery. The embroidery tells the story of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy in 34 extraordinary hand-stitched panels with a total length of 83 metres. It is named after Operation Overlord.
