Christmas is a very special time to visit the city of Chester. It’s historic streets are made all the more magical with festive lighting and decorations and the Town Hall square is transformed into a winter wonderland with one of the best Christmas Markets in the UK. The city plays host to a wide range of world class events including parades, festive theatre, renowned shopping, street entertainment and its foodie scene. The medieval cathedral is host to a fabulous Christmas Tree Festival and the famous Chester Zoo, which frequently appears on TV, features an illuminated lantern festival. Chester really is the perfect place to embrace the forthcoming festive season.
ITINERARY
Tuesday - Morning departure from Dorset to Chester and check-in to our hotel this afternoon with a welcome cocktail while the bags are portered. After settling in wander along the canal tow-path into the city centre (15 mins walk to cathedral/town hall) where the Christmas Market comes alive with lights, music and 70 stalls offering all manner of crafts, gifts and food & drink.
Wednesday - A full day to explore this historic city with its most complete city walls, Roman amphitheatre, cathedral, cobbled streets and medieval shopping rows. Maybe take a scenic boat trip on the River Dee or join the coach for an evening visit to Chester Zoo's Christmas Lanterns & Light (both at extra cost - recommend pre-booking). The Christmas Market itself opens at 10:30am and runs into the evening.
Thursday - Homewards bound this morning, we shall pause at Webbs of Wychbold Home and Garden Centre near Worcester for lunch, which features a great Christmas range. Return to Dorset by early evening.
