Based in the iconic city of York itself - A tour that offers legendary sights and attractions that weave evocative stories of this big and beautiful county.

Yorkshire is a big and beautiful county providing a variety of majestic countryside, much of which is protected as National Parks. It is proud of it’s past and a sense of history is never far away – be it castles and stately homes that weave their evocative stories, or the powerful industrial heritage that is vividly recreated in wonderful museums. On this tour we base ourselves right in iconic York itself – a small and mighty city that really packs a punch!

ITINERARY

Monday - Morning departure from Dorset to arrive in York late afternoon. After settling in enjoy a 3 course dinner in the restaurant with the remainder of the evening free to relax or step outside and wander this gem of a city.

Tuesday - Just 15 miles north of York stands the theatrical Castle Howard - not fortified but certainly stately none-the-less. Familiar to TV audiences as the fictional location for "Brideshead". The splendour of the house and treasures it contains is matched by the surrounding gardens and estate. A tour of House and entry to Gardens included.

Wednesday - We walk from the hotel across the bridge (4 mins) where we board a boat cruise on the River Ouse - discover fascinating facts and enjoy the views with a skippers commentary of the sights. The afternoon is free to make your own discoveries - maybe the historic Shambles, Viking museum, Railway museum, Chocolate Story, Castle or Minster…so much to see and do. After dinner this evening we are joined by a costumed guide who will escort a Ghost Walk - exploring the haunted spots of York: A legendary and disturbing experience that will capture your imagination. Sleep tight!

Thursday - This morning drive across the Vale of York to Pickering. At 11am board the North York Moors Railway for a steam hauled adventure - 13 miles and 1+ hour through the rugged moors with spectacular scenery all the way to Grosmont/Goathland. Rejoin the coach and drive to Whitby with its ancient abbey, stunning coastline and delicious fresh fish & chips. Return across the moors.

Friday - Homewards bound with vivid memories of Yorkshires legendary sights. Arrive back in Dorset by early evening.
