One of the most ancient and hauntingly beautiful areas in Europe. called Eryri in Welsh (“the place of eagles”), Snowdonia welcomes visitors to a breathtaking natural environment. People have lived, worked and thrived in this unique Celtic principality for more than 5000 years - their legacy is a land which will fascinate the visitor with its rich opportunities for sightseeing, culture and discovery. High passes and craggy peaks, towering sea-cliffs and wood fringed lakes – scenically Snowdonia must be the most dramatic of our National Parks. This newly organised holiday includes sightseeing by coach, train and boat to fully appreciate your magnificent surroundings.
ITINERARY
Monday - Morning departure from Dorset with stops as appropriate to arrive North Wales late that afternoon. After settling in enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
Tuesday - A spectacular scenic drive through the heart of Snowdonia - up the Conway Valley to Betws-y-Coed (coffee stop) - continuing through Blanenau Ffestiniog to the seaside town of Porthmadog for lunch. This afternoon join a steam train on the Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, climbing up the magnificent Aberglasyn Pass to Beddgelert, then descending to Caernarfon at the coast. A journey that will have you reaching for camera time and again.
Wednesday - Drive along the North Wales coast and cross onto the Isle of Anglesey to explore the quaint and historic streets of Beaumaris. This afternoon we shall join a 90 minute cruise to view Puffin Island - it was originally home to St. Seiriol whose 6th century monastery still stands on the summit, but is now home to countless seabirds including the iconic Puffin. You may also see dolphin and seals and will enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.
Thursday - A visit to the lovely village of Llanberis, situated right at the foot of Mount Snowdon. Discover the many attractions this busy little village has to offer - rich in history, myths and legends and having a strong cultural heritage. Take a walk around the slate quarries and imagine a time when the area roofed the world! This afternoon we shall take a ride on the Llanberis Lake Railway which gives stunning views of Snowdon along its 5 mile/1 hour round trip on an original 1845 slate railway route.
Friday - Homewards bound with breaks as appropriate to arrive back in Dorset early evening.
