Throughout history Kents strategic position as the gateway to England has shaped its military and maritime significance. On the frontline since medieval times Kents naval history represents one of the most important chapters in Englands story. The dockyards, air-bases and coastal defences have protected the realm and projected British power across the globe for over 400 years. Combining this legacy with a couple of delicious cream teas you have a sure-fire crowd pleaser!
ITINERARY
Monday - Morning departure from Dorset with refreshment stops as appropriate to arrive at our hotel that afternoon. A welcome drink while the bags are portered, then enjoy a delicious 3 course dinner.
Tuesday - Visit the Historic Dockyard Chatham, Britains richest maritime history destination. Covering 80 acres, the exhibits span 400 years of shipbuilding heritage. Amongst the activities you can explore a Cold War submarine, WW2 destroyer, Victorian sloop, Dockyard Railway and find out how rope was made during a Victorian Ropery Tour

Wednesday - Visit the home of time at Greenwich. There will be opportunity to explore such attractions as Greenwich Park, The Royal Observatory or Old Naval College. This afternoon make a self-guided tour of the famous Cutty Sark, the historic tea clipper that broke speed records. Learn about the romance, danger and adventure of life at sea. After your tour enjoy a cream tea sitting directly under the ships gleaming copper hull - something special!
Thursday - Today visit Chartwell, the family home of Sir Winston Churchill, which remains much as it was and provides an insight into one of Britains greatest leaders. House, gallery, gardens and woodland walks. This afternoon visit Biggin Hill Memorial Museum - our 1 hour guided tour traces the story of RAF Biggin Hill through the personal experiences of those who served there. There are exhibitions, collections, galleries, gardens and the St Georges RAF Chapel of Remembrance to visit. Another cream tea is provided in the vintage themed café - enjoy.
Friday - A final nautical treat - we shall visit the historic city-port of Portsmouth on our way homewards. Return to Dorset late that afternoon.
