A self governing crown dependency with its own parliament, laws, traditions, culture, cuisine and postage stamps ... a unique place.

The Isle of Man may be just a short ferry crossing from the British mainland but it has a unique character that sets it apart.  The Island is a unique self-governing kingdom - a Crown dependency which belongs to neither the UK nor the European Union. It has its own parliament (called Tynwald), laws, traditions, culture, cuisine and postage stamps. The pace of life seems less hurried and the air is cleaner as the ravages of industry have passed it by. The wild scenery of heather clad hills, wooded glens, rocky headlands and secluded coves will testify to this.  It is little a wonder that the island is known as “The safe haven in a violent world!”

We are delighted to announce that this holiday will be based at one of the newest and most up-to-date hotels available on the island - a marked contrats to the older Victorian based hotels most other tour operators tend to use.

ITINERARY

SATURDAY - Morning departure from Dorset to Worcester for lunch. Resume after time for sight-seeing to arrive at the Holiday Inn Preston for overnight stay.

SUNDAY - Morning visit to historic Lancaster with its pedestrian centre. Resume to Heysham for the lunch-time ferry to Douglas (3½ hours). A short drive to Ramsey and check-in to hotel late afternoon.

MONDAY - A day at leisure to enjoy the delights of Ramsey - the second largest town and sunniest spot on the island. It has a golden sand beach, a busy harbour, piers, shops, galleries, museums - so much interest.

TUESDAY - Drive to the south of the island and visit Castletown, once the centre of 19th century political life on the island. From here you can see the preserved Castle Rushen before moving on to the unmissable view of The Calf of Man. Continue to Cregneash, a small village on the Mull Hills that has become a living museum preserving the Manx language, traditions and way of life.
At Port Erin we board the Isle of Man Steam Railway for a train ride through the countryside - a full hours journey to Douglas. Rejoin the coach for the short drive back to Ramsey.

WEDNESDAY - Tour around the island to the west coast. Visit Peel - there is an old style feel to the place with its many narrow streets and small houses. See the ruined castle and stroll the promenade to the busy fishing harbour. We include entry to the House of Manannan where the island's sea god guides you through its rich Celtic, Viking and maritime past. Later we call at St John's, the historic home of the world's oldest parliament on Tynwald Hill.

THURSDAY - First stop of the day is the Isle of Man Motor Museum at Jurby with a behind the scenes tour of the workshops. This afternoon we have included a ticket for the Manx Electric Railway which runs from Ramsey to Laxey (and on to Douglas). It is the longest narrow gauge electric railway in the UK and still uses the original Victorian tram cars. The track runs through scenic countryside, glens and picturesque villages. At Laxey you will change to the Snaefell Mountain Railway to the top of the mountain and back. Later visit the famous Lady Isabella at Laxey - the worlds largest working water wheel. Return to Ramsey by coach.

FRIDAY- Join a morning ferry from Douglas to Heysham and drive homewards to return to Dorset that evening.
