Battle Proms are the longest running picnic proms series in the UK attracting around 40,000 visitors each year since 1997. They take place in a number of historic house settings throughout England and are a quintessentially British “party in the park”. We have choosen to attend the iconic Highclere Castle concert, famously the setting for TV's Downton Abbey. Featuring a 2 hour orchestral programme with all the “last night of the proms” favourites along with acclaimed operatic arias and nostalgic war-time songs. It is supported* by a thrilling horse cavalry display, a Spitfire fly-by, live firing of 200 Napoleonic cannons set to music, the Red Devils parachute display team and stunning fireworks!

ITINERARY
Saturday: Midday departure from Dorset (limited pick-up route) via comfort break at services to Highclere - Gates open 16:00. Bring a picnic with your own seating, drinks and flags to wave. There are toilets, free water points, a bar, hot drinks & food outlet (limited) on site. Concert starts at 17:45 - Ends at 22:00. Coach will leave Highclere at 23:00 approx. Late check-in to Swindon Hotel.
Sunday: Enjoy a lie-in after your late night. After a cooked/cold breakfast leave hotel at 10:30. Visit the McArthur Glen shopping mall in Swindon - 100 stores - save up to 60%. Also close to the "Steam" GWR museum. Leaving Swindon at 14:30 via comfort break at services. Return to Dorset late afternoon/early evening.

A modern 3 star hotel where we enjoy an overnight stay with cooked breakfast. Bedrooms are well equipped and provide private bathroom with free toiletries, hairdryer, TV with satellite channels, phone, tea tray, iron and are accessible by lifts. Free wifi throughout the hotel. Approx 30 minute drive from Highclere.

This is an outdoor event and will go ahead regardless of weather (flying displays may be affected if cloudy) Bring warm clothes as the evening can get chilly. No BBQ or stoves permitted. Fold up seats and picnic hampers can be carried on the coach (no tables or gazebos). The concert arena is lit but a torch may be useful. Highclere Castle is not open to visitors during Battle Prom.
