Stories of the people and places told through their art, archaeology and objects - all beautifully displayed in award winning museums and heritage attractions in Norfolk.

Norfolk has always earned its living from the land and the sea, and this special relationship is apparent in every corner, from the towering opulent churches built on the profits of a thriving medieval wool trade to the fishing boats pulled up on the shore. This dramatic landscape is also a sanctuary for wildlife and is dotted with charming market towns and picture-postcard villages.  People have been coming to Norfolk for over 700,000 years . Their stories are beautifully told through the art, archaeology and objects that they have left behind – all now displayed in the county’s award winning museums and heritage attractions.

Monday - Morning departure from Dorset to St Albans for lunch. Resume that afternoon to Norwich where dinner awaits.

Tuesday - To Great Yarmouth, East Anglia's premier beach resort has a fabulous maritime heritage and a famous port once the hub of the herring industry. We shall visit the Time and Tide Museum - a one-time herring smokehouse with stunning displays which recreate an atmospheric fish wharf. Lunch is available in the café - maybe try a local kipper? This afternoon we visit Tolhouse Gaol, a 12th century medieval building that was one England's oldest gaols. There will be a little time to stroll Great Yarmouth's spectacular seafront afterwards.

Wednesday - Drive through the Norfolk Broads to the waterside village of Stalham and a visit to the Museum of the Broads. Discover the history of the Broads, its people, boats and wildlife. Continue to Wroxham, the capital of the Broads situated on the busiest and most attractive part of the River Bure. This afternoon enjoy a 1½ hour cruise on the Norfolk Broads with a commentary of the waterside sights, history and stories of this unique landscape.

Thursday - We join the Mid-Norfolk Heritage Railway at Wymondham for an 11 mile trip through glorious countryside to Dereham (40 mins) - usually steam hauled. On arrival at Dereham enjoy a light lunch at the station (included). Later make the short drive to Gressenhall Workhouse Museum - explore life on the land and traditional farm with rare breed animals.

Friday - From hotel heading across country to Windsor for lunch. Later continue our journey homewards to arrive back in Dorset by early evening.
