Herefordshire is justly described as "unspoilt" and to enhance your appreciation of this beautiful area we are including a short trek in the countryside with Llamas.

If there’s one word to describe Herefordshire it’s “unspoiled” - for once this is no exaggeration! Instead of commuter towns there’s just the historic city of Hereford surrounded by little villages that time forgot. Black and white half-timbered houses are a Hereford trademark. The River Wye is a source of breathtaking scenery, while the many castles remind you that relations with Wales, the next-door neighbour, haven’t always been cordial. To enhance your appreciation and experience of this beautiful area we are including the opportunity to take a short trek in the countryside with Llamas – their quiet and gentle nature, funny faces and fluffy eyebrows are sure to make you smile and leave a fond memory.

ITINERARY

Monday - Morning departure from Dorset, crossing the Severn and driving up the Wye Valley to Tintern for lunch. After time to view the ruined abbey continue to Ross.

Tuesday - Visit the city of Hereford: Start with a guided tour of the Cathedral exterior to explore its treasures and history. Then a guided tour of the Cathedral Gardens (not usually open to the public), Mappa Mundi and Chained Library. After lunch in town we visit the Waterworks Museum - a Victorian pumping station with steam engines, waterwheels and beautiful gardens. Later we call into the Cider Museum which preserves the tradition of cider-making which is still developing today.

Wednesday - The Forest of Dean: First stop is the Dean Heritage Centre - history, art, culture, crafts, artefacts and stories that preserve the heritage of the forest. From charcoal burning and mining to a Victorian schoolhouse. Continue to the Dean Forest Steam Railway for a nostalgic journey through a natural landscape peppered with industrial heritage. A round trip of the line takes nearly 2 hours. There will be time for lunch in the excellent station café at Norchard and to view the museum and loco-sheds.

Thursday - Lama-trek: Briery Hill Llamas is not open to the public, this is a private collection that offers a bespoke experience. On arrival you will be introduced to the Llamas, told about their origins, facts/fiction and handling techniques. You will brush their coat and then take them for a walk around the farm with the opportunity to take photos. After the walk we return the Llamas to their paddock where you have to opportunity to feed them. Llamas are increasingly used as therapy animals - they have a calming effect and never fail to raise a smile! In the afternoon enjoy some free time to explore the lovely old town of Ross-on-Wye (group may be split and reversed)

Friday - Homeward bound with a stop in Chepstow for lunch. Return to Dorset by early evening.
