Real People, Real Stories. The very best human interest tales that will move and amuse you in equal measure. After some fascinating sightseeing in Lincolnshire we shall settle in to listen to our specially selected “After Dinner Speaker”. You will be enthralled as Mike James tells of his life onboard the QE2, as Jackie Simmonds recounts her life as a Tiller Girl, and Bernard Bale of BBC Radio remembers life in the 40s, 50s 60s and 70s. Unique life experiences that will make you gasp, laugh, even cry – it’s so much more entertaining than just sitting in front of the telly.
ITINERARY
Monday - Morning departure from Dorset across country with a stop for lunch in Oxford. Resume to Marston this afternoon with porterage of bags. After settling in enjoy your 3 course dinner. Tonight we shall listen as Mike James tells of life aboard the QE2. Mike was musical director onboard from 1981 and worked with the likes of Bob Hope, Bert Bacharach and Vera Lynn. From breakdowns in mid-Atlantic to the Falklands War - he has a multitude of exciting stories.
Tuesday - Visit the beautiful and historic city of Lincoln - discover picturesque cobbled streets, magnificent architecture and spectacular views from the medieval walls walk. The gothic cathedral is a globally iconic landmark standing tall over the city for centuries. Return to hotel and after dinner meet Jackie Simmonds, a former member of the dance troupe "The Tiller Girls" during the 50s and 60s. Learn about her fascinating life as she lifts the lid on the high kicks and lows of being a member of the all-girl troupe. Her finale has everyone laughing when she tries to teach guests one of the unique routines!
Wednesday - We shall visit The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight visitor centre at Coningsby. A rare opportunity to see the historic aircraft that feature in British state occasion fly-pasts, including a Lancaster , Dakota, Spitfires, Hurricanes and more. A guide will show us around and explain how they keep them flying. There will also be time to explore the town of Grantham, birth place of Margaret Thatcher. After dinner this evening we meet radio presenter Bernard Bale for his "You must remember this" after dinner talk. A step back in time to growing up in the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s - remember gob-stoppers, woollen swimming trunks, Watch with Mother, the music and fashions….
Thursday - We bid a fond farewell as we head homewards with a stop in the long village of Stockbridge where lunch can be sourced. Return to Dorset late afternoon.

A charming 3 star hotel set in the tranquil Lincolnshire countryside.
