One of our most popular tours, we are again delighted to offer this superb quality festive break featuring the authemtic and genuine Christmas Markets of the Rhine Valley. Join in the fun as you wander around the stalls looking for that unusual gift, continental delicacy or Christmas decorations so rarely found at home. Warm yourself with hot mulled wine, and sample such tasty delights as Bratwurst, spicy gingerbread and pastries. The atmosphere is further enhanced by performances from local choirs and spectacular illuminations and maybe even a seasonal sprinkling of snow!
ITINERARY
MONDAY - Very early morning departure for channel crossing to Calais and drive through Belgium to arrive Boppard in Germany early evening. Welcome drink on arrival followed by a 3 course dinner.
During our stay we shall make the following excursions -
- Visit the Christmas Market at Koblenz, with time to browse over 130 stalls as well as the under-cover Lohr Shopping Centre. A nostalgic carriage ride through the enchanting old town is a romantic idea. Expect an array of live musical entertainment, great shopping and even a special Christmas bakery.
- Visit Trier, Germany's oldest town with a superb Christmas market overlooked by the impressive cathedral and Roman tower. At the Trier Christmas Market you will find a great variety of Christmas articles, ranging from Christmas decorations, wooden toys, candles, hand-blown or engraved glassware to gifts and ceramics. Stop at Cochem in the picturesque Mosel Valley and wander its half timbered houses, fairytale castle and riverside promenade where there is also another small market.
- Cross the mighty Rhine River by ferry and head south to Rudesheim, for another lovely Christmas Market which is famous for its life-size nativity in the market square. Varied entertainment runs every day or you can go on a romantic river cruise and explore the enchanting "Upper Middle Rhine Valley".
FRIDAY - Homeward bound this morning, joining a late afternoon channel crossing and drive back to Dorset by late night.
