COTSWOLDS AUTUMN GLORY

3 Day Weekend

Friday 10th to Sunday 12th October

Anyone in search of the true English countryside need look no further than The Cotswolds, considered by many to be the most beautiful area of England.  With its unique stone-built heritage, gently rolling hills and broad valleys it is an ideal destination for the discerning visitor.  Explore historic market towns and small charming villages, each with an interesting church, impressive manor house or perhaps a country pub.  Our tour takes us off the beaten track as much as possible – taking to the country roads to discover the hidden gems from which so many artists, writers and craftspeople have drawn inspiration.  It shows off the loveliest villages and landscapes and reflects the romance of their history and heritage.

ITINERARY

FRIDAY – Morning departure from Dorset, across country to Cirencester for lunch – ancient former capital of The Cotswolds and second largest city in Roman Britain.  This afternoon we visit Bilbury, set in the valley of the River Coln and described as “the most beautiful village in England” – 14th century Arlington Row must be one of the most famous scenes anywhere in the UK.  Continue to Cheltenham where dinner awaits.

SATURDAY – “The Romantic Road” – a circular tour of Cotswold highlights that will have you reaching for your camera time and time again.  Our route takes us via Winchcombe – Broadway – Chipping Camden – Moreton-in-Marsh – Stow-on-the Wold – The Slaughters and back to Cheltenham.  Plenty of time to stop and enjoy the picturesque villages and lovely scenery, soak up the history and admire traditional “picture-book” England at her best along the way.  A day of unparalleled sights and views - you will not be disappointed!

SUNDAY – Visit Northleach, a delightful example of an unspoilt wool town – the church is unofficially known as The Cathedral of the Cotswolds.  Lunch is taken in Burford with many beautiful buildings along the main thoroughfare which twists up from the medieval bridge over the River Windrush.  Return to Dorset by late afternoon.
