The isolated archipeligo situated 28 miles off Land's End filled with unusual tropical flora and fauna they exude a timeless peace and natural quality.

Organising a holiday to the Isles of Scilly is always a challenging task and combining multiple transport, accommodation and attraction elements in to a coherent package does not come cheaply – if you are on a budget look away now!

Just 28 miles off Land’s End are five inhabited islands and countless uninhabited islets and rocks. A small archipelago, these beautiful islands exude a timeless peace and natural tranquility found nowhere else. Once you arrive you can start to unwind and adjust your tempo accordingly – “Stop, look and listen” takes on a whole new meaning. The Isles of Scilly can seem to be one big garden, with tropical plants growing in hedgerows and gardens. Their micro-climate, and the fact that frost is rare, makes them home to many unusual flora and fauna – this in turn encourages migrant birds to alight on these tiny specks of granite in the Atlantic Ocean.

ITINERARY

Sunday - Morning departure from Dorset to Buckfastleigh with time to visit the spectacular abbey built on the edge of Dartmoor. Later continue into Cornwall and drive ever westwards to arrive at Holiday Inn Express Bodmin for dinner and overnight stay.

Monday - An early breakfast (5:30am) sees us on the 9:15am** ferry sailing from Penzance bound for the Isles of Scilly - look out for dolphin on the way! Arrive St Mary's at 12 noon - your luggage is transferred by van and you will be escorted on the 10 minute walk to the hotel. After checking in the remainder of the afternoon is free in Hugh Town to get your bearings, stroll the prom and wander through the narrow streets and old quay.

Tuesday - After breakfast join an introductory tour of the island by bus, with a commentary of the sights, history and local stories (70 mins). The afternoon is free to make your own discoveries - maybe visit one of the art galleries, pottery or museum. There are over 30 miles of footpaths on the island, outstanding natural attractions, abundant wildlife, ancient remains, a thriving arts and craft culture and of course, deserted glorious sandy beaches

Wednesday & Thursday - Do as much or as little as you like. There are boating options available from the quay every single day, which will take you to one of the "off islands" - Tresco, St Martins, St Agnes and Bryther. There are also trips around the uninhabited isles to view wildlife such as seals and seabirds - enjoy the stunning landscapes from the water - visit shipwreck sites - or even a glass bottom boat. You can tour a vineyard and winery, wander through lush sub-tropical gardens, explore castles and forts and visit the grave of Sir Harold Wilson.

Friday - A final day to enjoy the delights of St Mary's. Your luggage will be transfered to the quayside in order to join the 4:30pm** ferry sailing back to Penzance, arriving 7:30pm. Our coach will meet you at Penzance and transfer you to Bodmin for overnight stay with a late light supper on arrival (9pm)

Saturday - Homewards bound this morning, stopping for refreshment as appropriate, to return to Dorset early afternoon.

THE BELL ROCK HOTEL, Isles of Scilly

One of the islands best loved hotels situated in a central yet quiet location in Hugh Town, the “capital” of St Mary’s Island. Convenient for the harbour, beaches, entertainment and museums – it has been extensively modernised and upgraded. All bedrooms have en-suite shower or bath, hairdryer, television, radio, tea tray and free wifi. The restaurant serves a wide variety of meals using fresh local produce whenever possible (Note: kitchens are closed on Wednesday evening so breakfast only provided in hotel giving you the opportunity to try dinner at other eating outlets in the town - or see alternative arrangement below). There is a bar and lounge in which to relax and even an indoor heated pool with gowns and towels provided. There is no lift and only a limited number of ground floor bedrooms – most are accessed via staircase – the compensation being that top 4th floor rooms have sea-views. The hotel likes to focus on traditional values, like friendliness and good customer service, rather than flashy touches and trendy extras – it does this exceptionally well and you will be made most welcome.

NB: *No dinner on Wednesday evening  -

As advised in our brochure/holiday itinerary – the kitchens of the Bell Rock Hotel are closed on Wednesday evening and dinner is NOT included on that day.

Although there are a number of restaurants and hotels that serve meals in the town they do get very busy during the holiday season and are often fully booked well in advance. You are recommended to arrange a dining reservation well before travel to ensure you have somewhere to eat on that evening.

Alternatively -

We have been in touch with a local pub restaurant – The Old Town Inn, is prepared to accept a group booking on that evening. The Old Town Inn is situated about 1 mile from the Bell Rock Hotel and we have arranged minibus transport to get you there and back at £5 per person return – or you can choose to walk (about 20 mins). However we do need to know numbers for transport in advance so you will have to pre-book a seat to ensure we have space. The bus fare will be added to your holiday account if want to book transport with us.

The Old Town Inn offers a good selection of traditional pub grub - it’s not Cordon Bleu but it is highly praised with good reviews on Trip Advisor and holds a 5 point hygiene rating. A copy of their latest sample menu is available from us, although content and prices are likely to change before April – it gives you an idea. You would be able to choose you own meal on the day and will be responsible to settling your own bill. Again, we would need to know if you wanted to book a place at the Old Town Inn so we can advise them in advance of numbers arriving.

The deadline for pre-booking both minibus and/or pub is the date your final balance is due for settlement – that being 11th February 2024.
