An iconic event - one of the biggest held in the UK and set amidst the big, beautiful and majestic countryside of Yorkshire.

Yorkshire is a big and beautiful county providing a variety of majestic countryside, much of it protected as a National Park. It is proud of its past and a sense of history is never far away – together nature and people have created this special landscape of immense splendour and character.  The Great Yorkshire Show is an iconic event held in the county every year, and one of the biggest agricultural events in the English calendar. More than 130,000 visitors and over 8,500 animals converge on the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate to compete, socialise and celebrate. It is a festival of food, countryside and agriculture - a non-stop programme of events includes of course Livestock shows, but also art, country pursuits, fashion, shopping, food and drink, live music, gardening …. the list goes on!

ITINERARY

Monday - Morning departure from Dorset across country and via motorways to Bradford. After the bags are portered settle into your room before dinner in the restaurant.

Tuesday - Visit York: This morning we shall board a sightseeing boat cruise on the River Ouse that flows through the city - the skippers commentary will uncover some of it fascinating secrets. The remainder of the day is free to make your own discoveries. The major attractions of the city require no introduction, from the National Railway Museum to the largest gothic cathedral north of the Alps, from the Shambles of the old town to the Jorvik Viking Museum - there is so much to see and do.

Wednesday - Visit The Great Yorkshire Show near Harrogate. We shall aim to arrive by 10am and spend the whole day experiencing this massive event - a celebration of food, countryside and agriculture with something for everyone while keeping farming at its heart. Leave at 6pm with a slightly later dinner arranged at the hotel on our return.

Thursday - Visit Skipton, a friendly and traditional town - The Gateway to the Dales. A happy marriage of olde world charm and hustle of a busy market it has remained refreshingly unspoiled. On to Grassington for lunch, the archetypical Dales village, it could have been lifted off a chocolate box or postcard. Beautiful stone buildings, quirky shops, friendly locals and stunning scenery. Now hold onto your seats as we cross narrow and steep dales roads through Hebden to Pately Bridge in the Nidderdale - you have to walk up the amazing High Street here!

Friday - Homewards bound with comfort stops as appropriate to return to Dorset early evening.
