The Steamship Shieldhall is the largest working heritage steam ship in Britain. A member of the National Historic Fleet she serves as a sea going tribute to Britain's maritime heritage. On this rare opportunity we shall experience the Golden Age of Steam onboard this unique time-capsule – a typical example of ships that plied the oceans from the 1870s to the 1960s, and now all but extinct. Her classic lines, traditional construction and steam machinery are immaculately preserved and a masterpiece of marine engineering.
During your 2 hours on the water you can take the opportunity to visit the impressive engine rooms with the original steam engines at work, and the bridge with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork. Talk to the captain and crew, walk the teak decks, relax in the saloon where a wide range of food and drink refreshments are available. We shall pass close to some of the Great Ocean Liners as they set sail for foreign ports – always a cue to sound the whistle and play “The Shieldhall Organ”!
