An attraction packed region of impossibly beautiful scenery, impressive literary history, abundant wildlife and a rich cultural heritage

A faultless combination of impossibly beautiful scenery, impressive literary history, abundant wildlife and a rich cultural heritage – Cumbria or “The Lake District” is arguably England’s finest landscape.  From enormous lakes to skyscraping mountains, ancient townships and pre-historic stone circles – the attraction packed region is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, and justly so!

ITINERARY

Monday - Morning departure northwards, to arrive in Kendal with a welcome tea/coffee while the bags are portered.

Tuesday - A special "Rails, Sails & Tails tour". First this morning to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite steam railway where we travel by vintage train up the pretty Leven Valley to Lakeside Pier. Change to a boat for a cruise on Lake Windermere to Bowness. Here we shall visit the delightful World of Beatrix Potter - sure to bring a nostalgic tear to many an eye! Later this afternoon we visit Blackwell, the late 19th century house full of arts & craft furniture.

Wednesday - Explore the Lakeland Motor Museum, home to a collection of over 30,000 exhibits which traces the history of motorsport through the 20th century. After lunch we shall visit the South Lakes Safari Zoo on the Furness Peninsula, home to over 1,000 rare and endangered animals. The zoo's unique natural environment allows you to get up close - Keeper talks, demos and feeding provide constant interest.

Thursday - This morning we have the chance to explore Kendal. Entry to the castle sitting atop the hill is free. We have included entry into the Kendal Museum which details the towns history. Next is the Museum of Lakeland Life and finally The Abbot Hall Art Gallery. This afternoon a short drive brings us to Sizergh Castle, where we shall enjoy the historic house and gardens.

Friday - After breakfast we head southbound, with a stop for lunch at Webbs of Wychbold, returning to Dorset early evening.
