4 Star Blackpool

Blackpool is universally recognised as the entertainment capital of the north - a heady blend of spectacular shows, endless beaches, weatherproof attractions, shops, piers, colourful trams and good old northern hospitality. Some love the brisk sea air, the architectural remnants of Britain's greatest Imperial Age, the utter lack of pretentiousness, and the poignant nostalgia where people look back fondly on the carefree fun they had in a simpler time.  Every autumn the town lights up with a dazzling display of coloured lights, lasers and optics – a magical sight referred to as “The Greatest Free Show on Earth!”

MONDAY - Morning departure to Blackpool, arriving in time for dinner.

TUESDAY - To Lancaster where we join a morning 2 hour boat cruise on the Lancaster Canal crossing the magnificent Lune Aquaduct - often referred to as one of the "wonders of the waterways". This masterpiece of engineering carries the canal 664 feet across the River Lune at a height of 61 feet. The afternoon is free in the city of Lancaster - a traffic free centre with beautiful architecture. This evening, after dinner, enjoy a coach tour along the illuminated promenade - spectacular!

WEDNESDAY - Visit Astley Hall near Chorley, the most exhilarating house in Lancashire, a Grade 1 listed building containing a museum and art gallery set in beautiful landscaped grounds. Stunning Jacobean plasterwork ceilings, an Elizabethan courtyard and Victorian walled garden are among its treasures. This afternoon drive to nearby Botany Bay Canal Mill - a beautifully restored cotton mill built in 1855 when Lancashire as at the forefront of the cotton industry. It now houses five floors of shops, restaurants and a garden centre following a 9 million pound re-development.

THURSDAY - At leisure in Blackpool. An opportunity to explore the delights of the Pleasure Beach with its "white knuckle" rides, take your seats for one of the countless shows, stroll the promenade, take tea at the Tower Ballroom or enjoy any other number of diverse attractions this town has to offer.

FRIDAY - Leave Blackpool after breakfast for homeward journey, returning to Dorset that evening.
